<br />
I have to say I was extremely nervous about interviewing him, I hate speaking to people over the phone, somehow it's even worse than having to meet face to face (I alsways get super paranoid about the sound of my own voice), but luckily Tze Goh was quite lovely and didn't seem to find me too annoying.<br />
<br />
Keep reading below for the full profile that I created about him - and feel free to let me know what you think.<br />

</span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span lang="EN-US">Juxtaposing minimal lines with complex design techniques, up and coming designer Tze Goh demonstrates how inspiration and success can appear in many forms. <o:p></o:p></span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">With his final bow consisting of nothing more than a humble head nod, Tze Goh proves that sheer talent and creative ingénue is all that is required to create a lasting impression.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">As the eponymous designer witnessed the final model disappear behind a stark white backdrop, he felt a “sense of all consuming pride”. The end of his premiere showcase at London Fashion Week was the culmination of six months tireless work, and a glittering education that led to him being named as one of Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s ‘Ones to Watch’.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">A Singapore native, Tze Goh has become something of a fashion butterfly. He studied in both Paris and New York, before heading to London, where he would eventually graduate from the prestigious Central St Martins School of design. The competitive fashion hothouse challenged Goh to live up to the standards of their impressive alumni, a challenge in which he succeeded, as his 2010 graduate collection garnered extensive praise. In pristine white, the clothes focused extensively on the ways in which a simple T-shirt could be developed into outerwear; with angular armholes and twisted collars the statuesque series of nine looks displayed a likeness to seminal designers Martin Margiela and Jil Sander. “When I start a collection it is on nothing more than a feeling”, says the designer in a heavy mandarin accent. “It’s only during the designing phase that a concept is actually created.” <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">In many ways, Goh’s designs are a perfect reflection of the man himself. Understated yet ingenious, austere yet modern, “(my clothes) are pure, minimal and statuesque”, he states coolly, blurring the lines between the man and his creations even further. Two seasons after his debut, Goh continues to stick to his aforementioned ethos. Accompanied by a haunting string instrumental, model after model strode, with an air of quiet confidence down the runway of his autumn/winter 11 collection. All intricate pleating and carefully folded curves, the garments in lagoon blue, and asphalt grey were executed with technical perfection. “I was inspired by geometric Japanese designs, and the clean lines of automobile interiors...especially German made automobiles.” Says Goh, explaining the reason behind the fastidious amount of workmanship in a single sentence.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span lang="EN-US"><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijJi8nxuV85fbdxS9L_bMH0CMJCfD_Pke04a-sT70PyzQVnIF7pDg-mVq2eXr0HwiHQNxfxqxGuQA1eqoK0lsmQ6QBjBdVxg4Fnc-z6L27l_eJndBy-XF2Fb-DB-OIYLNqEifRA98j3zAX/s1600/tzegohblog4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijJi8nxuV85fbdxS9L_bMH0CMJCfD_Pke04a-sT70PyzQVnIF7pDg-mVq2eXr0HwiHQNxfxqxGuQA1eqoK0lsmQ6QBjBdVxg4Fnc-z6L27l_eJndBy-XF2Fb-DB-OIYLNqEifRA98j3zAX/s400/tzegohblog4.jpg" width="265" /></a></div><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Once his education was complete, Goh decided to stay in London insisting, “it is the right place to develop my label…London is a combination of old and new, with an eye constantly to the future”. “I do miss the weather back home though”, Goh adds hurriedly, his pitch audibly changing for the first time. “It’s so cold here.”<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">The weather here may be cool, but his reception on unveiling his own label, has been anything but. Snapped up by concept boutique LN-CC (Late Night Chameleon Café), owner and former Harrods buyer John Skelton, Goh’s designs can be found nestled between those of Rick Owens, and Martin Margiela, in the new East London store, that prides itself on promoting ‘forward thinking’ brands. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">“It is important to continually push the boundaries of convention when designing; it’s the best way to keep challenging yourself,” says Goh on his future plans. “Although I am currently only focusing on womenswear, anything is possible in the future.” Indeed, maybe next season his final bow will captivate his audience more than his exquisite designs. Just maybe. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJvrcNHVYVeU9nl8e650NMZgQbw4rKYJjyRS1bNerZFY_Eq9HiRhbJA4OhM0xCOQNlSUqNkuzU5xZXXWMZZTz3tP9yXPyPMm8kLTF5m56A8ADqfHGo0z-7_bp0UttKERfMTHAMuJ9ohvCY/s1600/elizabeth-taylor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJvrcNHVYVeU9nl8e650NMZgQbw4rKYJjyRS1bNerZFY_Eq9HiRhbJA4OhM0xCOQNlSUqNkuzU5xZXXWMZZTz3tP9yXPyPMm8kLTF5m56A8ADqfHGo0z-7_bp0UttKERfMTHAMuJ9ohvCY/s1600/elizabeth-taylor.jpg" /></a></div><br />
A great actress, and an even greater star, her passing signals the end of an era, as one of the final links to Hollywoods Golden Age is lost.<br />
<br />
Commanding attention from an early age, Elizabeth Taylor literally grew up in the limelight. From her movie role in One Born Every Minute at the age of just 10, she went on to become one of the most revered actresses the world has ever, and most likely will ever know. From her Oscar winning turns as Gloria Wondrous in Butterfield 8, and the cult classic Cleopatra, the only thing that could upstage Taylor's talent, was her extraordinary beauty and tumultuous private life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV0s-wXN6O2quaNQkYYO7GcZYoAOlvhtdfC5HmYLPQ4FeI-NW2fwjllhyphenhyphenwQwy5Tsdd1icThP1fVjECFJnrx9VnNJ7LiTnCJ8ibxVt5ihqBEYp4dPMtmbLb68q8qphAZutVYO-qRsbUqEfX/s1600/elizabeth-taylor-as-cleopatra.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV0s-wXN6O2quaNQkYYO7GcZYoAOlvhtdfC5HmYLPQ4FeI-NW2fwjllhyphenhyphenwQwy5Tsdd1icThP1fVjECFJnrx9VnNJ7LiTnCJ8ibxVt5ihqBEYp4dPMtmbLb68q8qphAZutVYO-qRsbUqEfX/s320/elizabeth-taylor-as-cleopatra.jpg" width="299" /></a></div><br />
With her legendary violet eyes, alabaster skin, and raven locks, she became one of the worlds most talked about women; setting a precedent for the way in which young starlets would be viewed in years to come.<br />
<br />
However I truly hope that she won't be remembered for her ability to sell newspapers, but for her extraordinary talent, and for her humanitarian efforts, that sees her HIV/Aids foundation that has helped millions of people worldwide, as surely one of her greatest legacies.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As I sit here typing, I am not shocked that she is no longer with us, I am shocked that a women so talented, beautiful and resilient could ever have existed at all.</div><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Today, women everywhere should prepare to jump for joy as Makeup Forever launches the world’s first ‘unretouched makeup campaign’. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Yes you heard it right: bucking the trend for unrealistically flawless foundation and perfectly polished pouts, the American makeup brand has chosen to use au naturale images to promote its line of HD foundation, instead of the endless stream of pictures, Photoshopped beyond recognition before they are released into our consciousness.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Pictured, arm outstretched, snapping a photo of herself, the campaign is clearly assisted by the fact that the model in question is already stunning, with near perfect skin.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipDptlGa5FgmnYCs6QSMABTWfQ1h0n62QOCrKxiKlO4UywCZxROVSxLnfag24Ma51fS5VE42RxWT5-Ole2p3zmEfBjbgqZN4FokiU6BbbvV4DlkdNnc9NdIFpg6xpakWcc2AiOzIG8Q11t/s1600/MUFE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipDptlGa5FgmnYCs6QSMABTWfQ1h0n62QOCrKxiKlO4UywCZxROVSxLnfag24Ma51fS5VE42RxWT5-Ole2p3zmEfBjbgqZN4FokiU6BbbvV4DlkdNnc9NdIFpg6xpakWcc2AiOzIG8Q11t/s400/MUFE.jpg" width="293" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">However there are flaws for us to hone in on; from her bumpy arm to her dark under eye circles, the campaign has a sense of realism, that allows us to actually get a sense of the products capabilities, as opposed to those of the digital designer.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">It's a brave pioneering move. Lets hope that this is just the first of many brands to allow us to see the real women, behind the manufactured image.</div><div class="MsoNormal"></div>Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-90144256902667623722011-03-09T16:14:00.000-08:002011-03-10T03:52:44.514-08:00Commuun: Paris Fashion WeekOne of my favourite shows from Paris Fashion Week, has to be the Commuun show.<br />
<br />
The Parisienne based fashion house is run by two Japanese designers, Kaito Hori and Iku Furudate, although they have only shown the past two seasons, I find their shows, and their innovative way of constructing garments very exciting indeed.<br />
<br />
Focusing on the interplay between sheer and opaque fabric, the Japanese design duo created a collection that re-invented the wardrobe staple, simply through the mixing of un-expected textures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS_YhorZ6vkCUjdhZSCcTD-yyt0oMXGFF6gTVNG0kOsQ-9uLB1a7Fae6x8cAjczDzR5QRc7w8PvVSBvwjITEviFMUiz9eOivXBGwbmF-q5KebVRGcFDGiuvdd9981vRa4WlFWR9Jr-ahWw/s1600/Commuun1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS_YhorZ6vkCUjdhZSCcTD-yyt0oMXGFF6gTVNG0kOsQ-9uLB1a7Fae6x8cAjczDzR5QRc7w8PvVSBvwjITEviFMUiz9eOivXBGwbmF-q5KebVRGcFDGiuvdd9981vRa4WlFWR9Jr-ahWw/s400/Commuun1.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This black cropped jacket was given a uniquely contemporary twist, by juxtaposing the rigid matte black fabric with the oil slick-esque high shine panels. It looks gorgeous with this monochrome ensemble, but would look equally stunning dressed down on the average women with jeans and sky-high black ankle boots. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheBLYILyg_JTf2i7fe5_gervInY4rYEmhZxXrHGFSKhZVw9HXtpVkNG_GtKxMp8VmhIqKfyhfk2X9osjmiNykiFm-W9sD5GSGOmICcLHU6vNSfNEeMIXTNw8HF-OgybKvVxmSQklz3CDA5/s1600/Commuun2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheBLYILyg_JTf2i7fe5_gervInY4rYEmhZxXrHGFSKhZVw9HXtpVkNG_GtKxMp8VmhIqKfyhfk2X9osjmiNykiFm-W9sD5GSGOmICcLHU6vNSfNEeMIXTNw8HF-OgybKvVxmSQklz3CDA5/s400/Commuun2.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I adore the mix of sheer and opaque fabric in this dress. Whilst this is a very simple silhouette, the contrast makes your eyes dance around the page. Obviously not the most wearable dress - I may need to hit the gym for a few hundred hours first - it looks stunning as a show piece.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjj0jbag3_ZMxnDtTPnkmbCDcWeJ7qoexfBNvHiemR26pW-h0ikzcC5rs33Bwaf5BEWYSZZNtmmfF5qLaXqn7Oi15pynYI4tWUS480p28fMlXSv5uC9sgCizHyDNBDpZf1OVUzj7i0DEqx/s1600/Commuun3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjj0jbag3_ZMxnDtTPnkmbCDcWeJ7qoexfBNvHiemR26pW-h0ikzcC5rs33Bwaf5BEWYSZZNtmmfF5qLaXqn7Oi15pynYI4tWUS480p28fMlXSv5uC9sgCizHyDNBDpZf1OVUzj7i0DEqx/s400/Commuun3.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is a master class in how to make sweatpants sexy. Mix matte white trousers, with a sheer chiffon, and black wool top and you never need be ashamed when you answer the door to the postman again. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">These exquisitely tailored yet casual trousers may actually be my favourite piece from the entire collection - I literally want to reach through my computer screen and grab them of that lucy, lucky model.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJTHGwDxpXqxfupAlXVypd9NyhX41WRDyTH7oK4ESFcdOcCBBBCENmb4H9A3vkuvfNDkGSHy5xYglRNnwBpClNGbYaAHDFPwAP4H4VWiHGdKjS8LNb_DaEoIedWstzx_L6ElVsl5QcST4m/s1600/Commuun5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJTHGwDxpXqxfupAlXVypd9NyhX41WRDyTH7oK4ESFcdOcCBBBCENmb4H9A3vkuvfNDkGSHy5xYglRNnwBpClNGbYaAHDFPwAP4H4VWiHGdKjS8LNb_DaEoIedWstzx_L6ElVsl5QcST4m/s400/Commuun5.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The perfect cocktail dress. I wonder if we will see anyone on the red carpet in this, this year? I will be on the look out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQo3CTG23FEHwK7gB0EcG3DvBOInq5AHOqpW15nv0qZ6VJXAyOmk_ziCZiumgqadEj-EnLkpw6kag9yJVt-b9vqmza68Fv33c1i_YO6-P95RyQ4q6V_kgD0zUEYnm1RPZpcL8LHaKk0WmE/s1600/commuun400300m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQo3CTG23FEHwK7gB0EcG3DvBOInq5AHOqpW15nv0qZ6VJXAyOmk_ziCZiumgqadEj-EnLkpw6kag9yJVt-b9vqmza68Fv33c1i_YO6-P95RyQ4q6V_kgD0zUEYnm1RPZpcL8LHaKk0WmE/s400/commuun400300m.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The final looks strayed from the monochrome structure of the rest of the show, and introduced pops of primary colour. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">All in all, this was one my surprise favourite show of the entire season; simplistic yet innovative, I only wish I had a few thousand pounds to spend on those white trousers, and black jacket. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My only gripe? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Why the red eyeshadow? </div>Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-66078240747944077572011-03-08T13:09:00.002-08:002011-03-23T13:39:01.069-07:00John Galliano: What Could Have BeenIn an intimate salon setting, a series of just 20 looks was showcased, from the fallen visionaries e own line.<br />
A far cry from the fantastical, and theatrical nature that normally encapsulates a John Galliano show, I was worried that the clothes would pale in comparison to his usual exquisite standards; on the contrary, amid the simplistic setting, it served only to showcase just how stunning Galliano's designs are, and what a great loss to the fashion industry the events of the past two weeks have led too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRC-fpbEL5rE0EV9xkOmMruZRW2mdwEwQls_3kmSMFnxcceE3Ict-dmqf8FIc3OrarEQtEXyKvZM4w9UPlUPB8jYzuAsy1q0bD5_LQP2oGmJiejC9fM8D2HWr1vFXN6ROjMxz-Sgy2ieOs/s1600/John+Galliano+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRC-fpbEL5rE0EV9xkOmMruZRW2mdwEwQls_3kmSMFnxcceE3Ict-dmqf8FIc3OrarEQtEXyKvZM4w9UPlUPB8jYzuAsy1q0bD5_LQP2oGmJiejC9fM8D2HWr1vFXN6ROjMxz-Sgy2ieOs/s400/John+Galliano+1.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Whilst I am in no way excusing or attempting to justify the designer's behaviour, it should be noted that I am also unable to overlook the beautiful garments from his latest collection, that would in other circumstances have been applauded. The fur collared tailored jackets, latex pencils skirts and the ubiquitous nod to 30s with over sized closh hats, was combined with an un-parelled sense of glamour in the form of romantic, billowing print dresses and feather adorned midi skirts. Groundbreaking? No. Signature Galliano? Of course, but then, actually, aren't they one and the same thing?<br />
<br />

The one thing that was missing was Galliano's signature bow. With the designer now apparently seeking help for the drink problems that caused his outburst - the question has to be asked as to how long he will remain in fashion exile? Coco Chanel's lasted nine years didn't it?<br />
<br />
What are your views on his latest collection?Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-51743131371449050502011-03-06T09:55:00.000-08:002011-03-06T09:55:22.182-08:00Maison Martin MargielaThe Maison Martin Margiela show (hereby referred to in this post as MMM) is always one of my highlights of Paris Fashion Week.<br />
The Belgian design house, always manages to deliver a conceptual collection that leaves you with a strong opinion one way or another.<br />
Not always wearable (who can forget last seasons cardboard cut-out take on masculine vs feminine?), the clothes always make an impact along with a highly entertaining and thought provoking show.<br />
<br />
This season however left me feeling somewhat disappointed.<br />
<br />
Based around the concept of a single dress, the models appeared with dresses, un-zipped to the waist to reveal the garments lying underneath.<br />
A great concept, yet all too often the clothes looked just way to bulky, and swamped the models slight frame.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBufmBX1Q7HRWJC646mD0HTazgn9r0g8vb0UkZyI1wKdbv_Wsgz95LmFa2XOnRkE0PRIIl7ylARoyWACKuRoilS8zkxoOLg4dho5YWb-KuvY_ju-Yq7vdJ_E6-ptm9cKy4plGdRFhuJViM/s1600/matin+margiela2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBufmBX1Q7HRWJC646mD0HTazgn9r0g8vb0UkZyI1wKdbv_Wsgz95LmFa2XOnRkE0PRIIl7ylARoyWACKuRoilS8zkxoOLg4dho5YWb-KuvY_ju-Yq7vdJ_E6-ptm9cKy4plGdRFhuJViM/s400/matin+margiela2.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It is almost impossible to see the detailing underneath the red coat in this outfit. It's almost as if the stylists were competing to see just how many garments could be forced on a single girl.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The ubiquitous deconstruction was once again showcased by MMM. Normally a masterclass in how to chop and change garments - this coat looks to me almost amateur - as if a design student had been let loose with a pair of scissors.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge7v8QQ08EUq7wG0-FEaOBs84lIjnNikzX9KjkeL3zuvQbCGMZKpaZ3yIlnoXB8_LyBhYLVVVF1x2YyYVbViKmQC8vLPYSltZzy-4cS5WDkaSXJ7W_x4HqUGaSPzLgsHuxQJHjop1h7tvB/s1600/martin+margiela+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge7v8QQ08EUq7wG0-FEaOBs84lIjnNikzX9KjkeL3zuvQbCGMZKpaZ3yIlnoXB8_LyBhYLVVVF1x2YyYVbViKmQC8vLPYSltZzy-4cS5WDkaSXJ7W_x4HqUGaSPzLgsHuxQJHjop1h7tvB/s400/martin+margiela+4.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My favourite look in collection however has to be this camel maxi skirt complete with long black leather gloves.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgocuwY1dt5wAwvjx5UkNJBv5mrK3xWJzgBX8iMx8li11eElak-G6uO0kLsPElLGprG7V3xRPFhiGGx9f30RMOm-Bs4ETG-3IA5rrhC03RiWO6o75gNuMBvXxQbW_TQW_BujqZ_SS9Mpvdt/s1600/martin+margiela1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgocuwY1dt5wAwvjx5UkNJBv5mrK3xWJzgBX8iMx8li11eElak-G6uO0kLsPElLGprG7V3xRPFhiGGx9f30RMOm-Bs4ETG-3IA5rrhC03RiWO6o75gNuMBvXxQbW_TQW_BujqZ_SS9Mpvdt/s400/martin+margiela1.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I also love this pink sleeveless dress, however once again think that less would defiantly have been more when it came to the styling ( I am not a fan of the wrinkly pantyhose boots)- it really distracts from the exquisite garment.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilzBw8ihdVs2zZ-sc4w738kdBeDYPhZ6War96UyUQVc8vERGOEcNGSi9gpuuXLDcyg8r08HGB3eB6S-NNJV75cWIAwzkE6DxzWB9T6iY-_OrYuKNe92LWkM_7Stf_ZJp3h9zL-L0E-mMx3/s1600/margiela.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilzBw8ihdVs2zZ-sc4w738kdBeDYPhZ6War96UyUQVc8vERGOEcNGSi9gpuuXLDcyg8r08HGB3eB6S-NNJV75cWIAwzkE6DxzWB9T6iY-_OrYuKNe92LWkM_7Stf_ZJp3h9zL-L0E-mMx3/s400/margiela.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">All in all I feel that whilst this a good collection with some nice pieces, it doesn't have the usual MMM wow factor that leaves you discussing the collection for days afterwards.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">What did you think of the collection?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-46798225489364266572011-03-05T06:21:00.000-08:002011-03-21T13:08:19.718-07:00Ann Demeulemeester: Black Parade<div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">It’s rare that an all black collection has the ability to capture its audience. All too often the exquisite detailing gets lost against the mass of opaque fabric.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal">Following in the footsteps of seminal designers such as Vera Wang and Yohi Yamamoto, Ann Demeulemeester appears to have defied all fashion logic as her single colour collection was (at least in my little mind) a showstopper.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJHrYhc9FnfBmtRfheL9sG1sbTHjEGGO84jIZL2Cfw8qAycO5t22GVyDXdVZK3XFnTWWQnEeVfPkJQEGQvslTST50_bhao-gScKI73lHFzg_ak0LKAjEbYrJIxsF-Ko3w80eOvmFWzfWwO/s1600/AD+first+look.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJHrYhc9FnfBmtRfheL9sG1sbTHjEGGO84jIZL2Cfw8qAycO5t22GVyDXdVZK3XFnTWWQnEeVfPkJQEGQvslTST50_bhao-gScKI73lHFzg_ak0LKAjEbYrJIxsF-Ko3w80eOvmFWzfWwO/s400/AD+first+look.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><br />
The formidable Belgian designer strayed from her monochrome colour palette seen last just season and sent an array of darkly beautiful models down the runway; each one adorned with birdlike, black feather head pieces, oh so tough black leather leggings, and intrinsically detailed velvet jackets in, you guessed it, black.<br />
<br />
The indulgent goat fur jackets, the ends of which had been tinged with crimson red, provided the only shot of colour, to the all black collection. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDyLWens5BavCMoAogoT-itGslc0aKOn6dhSoUejSy3DSb8TyRJzNVWgW53NQx51VUKL4MsBIMaBMsp8J1s7b4HGAeIs0hVquBPDnHAxUnhYgzdMyAtho6MdrrFQXcoRUnDreYWdbOQC9s/s1600/AD+goat+fur+coat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDyLWens5BavCMoAogoT-itGslc0aKOn6dhSoUejSy3DSb8TyRJzNVWgW53NQx51VUKL4MsBIMaBMsp8J1s7b4HGAeIs0hVquBPDnHAxUnhYgzdMyAtho6MdrrFQXcoRUnDreYWdbOQC9s/s400/AD+goat+fur+coat.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Whilst the collection may not appear instantly wearable (I can’t quite imagine I would ever have the occasion to whip out a £10,000 goat fur coat), there are many pieces which would make great winter staples, once styled out of your own closet.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">For example this velvet and lace encrusted crop jacket would complement any winter cocktail dress, and look perfect over a simple jeans and silk shirt ensemble.<br />
<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjBfNMD-cs_0xlcUZopzYOoKD2QmEdJVNf24yfMxPOhqvYIPf2nqtjL3teRkT6iiBULjMest1E2kL-jhHpftffHwaBbnFVIhBmET7AgNoT2L19P1biOKtAdhwc3IExxjAe2Zw_wnog-Q4D/s1600/AD+velvet+jacket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjBfNMD-cs_0xlcUZopzYOoKD2QmEdJVNf24yfMxPOhqvYIPf2nqtjL3teRkT6iiBULjMest1E2kL-jhHpftffHwaBbnFVIhBmET7AgNoT2L19P1biOKtAdhwc3IExxjAe2Zw_wnog-Q4D/s400/AD+velvet+jacket.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For me however, the big trend to come from this collection has to be the innovative use of belts. Big, tough and military inspired, they have been juxtaposed with bird’s feathers to symbolise, in the designers own words, “giving peace a chance”.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGk8YGFFnoedq7efBoOA6CJ7MOlMhGrG0rK01dwO6zJNpXUNx8FPvV8rCkmdtfi0BAZOKlC_-eCTAyDO8DySc2DY8FaeofHj2UqaJiUqyusGHjV2LfC88t2XtId4xdlRv4Gz5Dq3gNR3Da/s1600/AD+belt+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGk8YGFFnoedq7efBoOA6CJ7MOlMhGrG0rK01dwO6zJNpXUNx8FPvV8rCkmdtfi0BAZOKlC_-eCTAyDO8DySc2DY8FaeofHj2UqaJiUqyusGHjV2LfC88t2XtId4xdlRv4Gz5Dq3gNR3Da/s400/AD+belt+1.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Forcing the clothes to ruffle and crumple, the oversized belts literally coerce the body into an entirely new silhouette. For the price of one, well chosen accessory, you could have the ability to renew an endless amount of outfits, all whilst flattering your body shape.<br />
<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIpZSAL50jkjk_PHSLrH0_o9b5rxsm2OblJQ1Dkyj1-8eqV9XK05PKEzxSjfR9IYPaURMtRV33MzVbI0UZOuM_adLE-lx1nLf_bJxUhjoP3pq4luuPlij9VxkB1NTU6uxxxnG4-deTJI1A/s1600/AD+belt+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIpZSAL50jkjk_PHSLrH0_o9b5rxsm2OblJQ1Dkyj1-8eqV9XK05PKEzxSjfR9IYPaURMtRV33MzVbI0UZOuM_adLE-lx1nLf_bJxUhjoP3pq4luuPlij9VxkB1NTU6uxxxnG4-deTJI1A/s400/AD+belt+2.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

<br />
So then, why is it that it's so dam hard to find the perfect pair?<br />
<br />
There is so many choices. Do you go skinny or bootcut? Indigo or stonewash? High street or high end?<br />
And then don't even get me started on the size. I can recall many an hour spent hopping around in a claustrophobic changing room, as a desperately tried to squeeze myself into a pair of jeans which to be honest just didn't fit.<br />
<br />
With all these choices, and the prospect of spending a few hours trapped in a dressing room, it's little wonder most women dread the thought of having to start the hunt for their perfect denim jeans.<br />
<br />
With this in mind, I thought I would put together my top jean picks, to make the search a little easier.<br />
<br />
<b>Topshop</b><br />
Granted this isn't exactly a ground breaking choice BUT Topshop's MOTO denim delivers a great range of detailed denim pieces at an affordable price of around £40<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The majority of jeans I own hail from good old Topshop, and from my experience they wear extremely well, surviving wash after wash, and for a cheaper pair of jeans manage to escape the hideous knee sag affect.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My personal faves are their vintage wash skinnies.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNMjGpP59uRL8nd_7IviYG0ImDe9YFtSw48uyeJdCQ1_rW5vLoc9qc8fOz7ZO3fqg4JHVIKcGwEK9KeS1YLOogGd6PpaKK05R0F_Et0Ma0jcGcrpqJ9z-fC_IWcTu2bRLhssgVpv9WkOaF/s1600/topshop+skinny+jean.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNMjGpP59uRL8nd_7IviYG0ImDe9YFtSw48uyeJdCQ1_rW5vLoc9qc8fOz7ZO3fqg4JHVIKcGwEK9KeS1YLOogGd6PpaKK05R0F_Et0Ma0jcGcrpqJ9z-fC_IWcTu2bRLhssgVpv9WkOaF/s1600/topshop+skinny+jean.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<b>PRPS</b><br />
<br />
Literally standing for purpose, this Rolls Royce of denim, specialises in the quality and longevity of their jeans.<br />
Priced between £150 and £300, these are definitely at the pricier end of the spectrum - but in my opinion are worth every penny.<br />
Using the softest African cotton and spun on the looms used to create the original Levi's, these jeans will literally last a life time.<br />
<br />

Just one tip - they fit on the small side, so if, like me you generally fall in between two waist sizes, plump for the bigger one on this occasion<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Levi's Curve ID</b><br />
The iconic denim brand launched their revolutionary Curve ID line last year, and it aims to provide perfectly fitting jeans for all shapes and sizes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXxP_3ErK9j7zt1Z1rsv2KGIP-WxudCqbWpf8gnGwbm-YxkSuOAqmwYjtQV6XxJi6tX8E1bb3HWIN1iZwQnyb9NJsjmwxGgdGVWw9wNMiiCReMOkwYgfe5YQTtcGB3T6npQ1cEy1HD7HIG/s1600/levi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="357" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXxP_3ErK9j7zt1Z1rsv2KGIP-WxudCqbWpf8gnGwbm-YxkSuOAqmwYjtQV6XxJi6tX8E1bb3HWIN1iZwQnyb9NJsjmwxGgdGVWw9wNMiiCReMOkwYgfe5YQTtcGB3T6npQ1cEy1HD7HIG/s400/levi.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Now I have to be honest and admit that I had failed to pay much attention to the line, until last week that is when I friend told me she was thinking about going to check them out.<br />
<br />
Being the great friend I am, I went with, to check out just how easy it is to find your perfect fit.<br />
On entering the store, we were quickly given a run down of all the different categories you could fall into, before my friend, Amy was ushered into the changing rooms to be measured.<br />
<br />
The idea of in store measurements normally fill me with horror and a feeling of embarrassment, but to my surprise the whole process took no more than five minutes and consisted of getting a waist, hip and leg measurement.<br />
<br />
Before long Amy had been given a perfectly fitting pair of jeans ( she fell into the demi curve category), and I had a unabashed feeling of jealousy as I wished I could justify spending £80 on a pair of jeans on a whim.<br />
<br />
Overall I would completely recommend the Curve ID experience and feel that you would struggle to not find a perfect fitting pair of jeans.<br />

<div><br />
</div><div>Ok, so there wasn't too many complete disasters, but there were no WOW moments either, that gave me the the almost irrepressible desire to get up and lick my TV screen.<br />
<br />
<b>My least Favourites</b></div><div>The always fashionable Reese Witherspoon played it overly safe in monochrome Armani Prive</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTDome0-fh16Hr3rOVcM9RXD4nU7b8_pBwlmT6HsKCCBFKD5zdThcjTGDETTLlqlw2zGCA_LqLfvL4svFwGheDuc0fu94f3hEYx_8A6nTvrh2bpQBVtotUfPWhXTovVDZXx4h0xJuTuR9/s1600/reese+oscars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBTDome0-fh16Hr3rOVcM9RXD4nU7b8_pBwlmT6HsKCCBFKD5zdThcjTGDETTLlqlw2zGCA_LqLfvL4svFwGheDuc0fu94f3hEYx_8A6nTvrh2bpQBVtotUfPWhXTovVDZXx4h0xJuTuR9/s400/reese+oscars.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><div><div><br />
</div><div>Gwyneth Paltrow looked shockingly space age, in a slash neck Calvin Klein gown that resembled molten silver. Beautiful, but dare I say it a little young for Ms Paltrow? The sparkling gown appears harsh against her tanned skin and ice maiden blonde hair.</div><div><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9ErtWTvS07TV-LHu20I41IBL2wc6s2W2_QaeZY-vFzOazYo2LEolxlhIIscT5b6m9kXpfpnPnNiwfvQABMCZKL1WqATbWkhcBiACmt7x-fWvWg5tIyr-r11gJb7PDKCxfpnSg8Jlc2Uuz/s1600/gwyneth-paltrow-oscars-2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9ErtWTvS07TV-LHu20I41IBL2wc6s2W2_QaeZY-vFzOazYo2LEolxlhIIscT5b6m9kXpfpnPnNiwfvQABMCZKL1WqATbWkhcBiACmt7x-fWvWg5tIyr-r11gJb7PDKCxfpnSg8Jlc2Uuz/s400/gwyneth-paltrow-oscars-2011.jpg" width="250" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Another complete disappointment for me was Penelope Cruz. The normally tres chic actress opted for a red L'wren Scott print dress which appeared rather bland and forgettable, almost a little cheap.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFqS3eBDI1NzAZNfoSZc827L6DJEt_7RdBkMsZHjw-Ubh7CyQU6QAFWNlzUdhrb2iFwD4F2QTyT7KE98cBrMMJtPpv-NCKBx93jy-WLx7JG6Xlqw30XhSiItJ8zQZGsvJQvaS_Gvvnxslu/s1600/penelope-cruz-oscars-2011-red-carpet-01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFqS3eBDI1NzAZNfoSZc827L6DJEt_7RdBkMsZHjw-Ubh7CyQU6QAFWNlzUdhrb2iFwD4F2QTyT7KE98cBrMMJtPpv-NCKBx93jy-WLx7JG6Xlqw30XhSiItJ8zQZGsvJQvaS_Gvvnxslu/s400/penelope-cruz-oscars-2011-red-carpet-01.jpg" width="246" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div>In contrast however, Amy Adams wore a L'Wren Scott dress which definitely makes it onto my list of;<br />
<br />
<b>Best Dresses of the Night</b><br />
<b><br />
</b><br />
The midnight blue stunner, clings to Amy Adams' fab post baby figure, and perfectly complements her stunning red locks.<br />
But then why oh why did she have to team it with the Cartier necklace and bracelet?<br />
Both stunning in their own right, but teamed with the head to toe blue sparkles it simply looks too much and ruins the clean silhouette of the gown.<br />
Otherwise this look would without a doubt be my favourite of the night.<br />

<br />
One of my favourite high street stores has to be Zara, they always deliver good quality garments at a reasonable price and provide wearable day-night pieces. And they don't seem to have disappointed this season as the shop floor was awash with rosy pink and caramel hues, a clear nod to the ballet inspired designs as seen at Chloe and J.Mendal.<br />
<br />
For me where Zara excels though is in there bags and shoes, I always seem to walk out with a pair and at least another 3 firmly planted on my wish list; this week was no exception as I selected a pair of tan leather roman, wedge sandals<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi91JH_wuit8qPEby55M3zWklhm14ouQINXaAcxFcsEqNYQt2pNnZiLzAG1d9U1G-LVV_hAqyx926wM2qeRIkLXNymfYjjPWtQBSXHUe3TyvFAwpvFjGZc0Z3C_3C5MIspmk92MLg3uj8d4/s1600/zara+sandal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi91JH_wuit8qPEby55M3zWklhm14ouQINXaAcxFcsEqNYQt2pNnZiLzAG1d9U1G-LVV_hAqyx926wM2qeRIkLXNymfYjjPWtQBSXHUe3TyvFAwpvFjGZc0Z3C_3C5MIspmk92MLg3uj8d4/s320/zara+sandal.jpg" width="248" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A new edition to zara's footwear this season is a kind of squishy sole that goes underneath the ball of your foot - I am seriously hoping this goes some way to increasing my poor tolerance to heels so I stop having to lug around spare flats wherever I go.</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT_1SY1BCkMvqtBDst31WDURIs6h6MTM9yuONW38cKQ4tQegYqY7B5l2WdEAxlQ2Rf1qGSStcDcVekE2dRAshPUxRYlvPX-pTXmHH5KbR3uWO-KNsnDTtyGs1N9ZTQLWkQi9OXRLp4md49/s1600/zara+ballerina.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT_1SY1BCkMvqtBDst31WDURIs6h6MTM9yuONW38cKQ4tQegYqY7B5l2WdEAxlQ2Rf1qGSStcDcVekE2dRAshPUxRYlvPX-pTXmHH5KbR3uWO-KNsnDTtyGs1N9ZTQLWkQi9OXRLp4md49/s320/zara+ballerina.jpg" width="249" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd6Xt9Kl2Vi-KBxaKxQDUnhp4YAZkCFgrQ2TlDqyMjXvkMiCn48QvhAuw9vujRrYgQlJxOzNyndJ3ygrA0wEEKkbRqoBZIIXNvvFdAR6-YvMHqLMis2H1ywkiHUVZ1Hp5rtimeoeRY7Lne/s1600/zara+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd6Xt9Kl2Vi-KBxaKxQDUnhp4YAZkCFgrQ2TlDqyMjXvkMiCn48QvhAuw9vujRrYgQlJxOzNyndJ3ygrA0wEEKkbRqoBZIIXNvvFdAR6-YvMHqLMis2H1ywkiHUVZ1Hp5rtimeoeRY7Lne/s320/zara+bag.jpg" width="249" /></a><br />

The other items that caught my eye were a pair of pink ballet flats, and a gorgeous turquoise handled bowling bag.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWX3wSwmGnVdp5vSWSjQYKfnNQfHDhcULD6U1dbEPVgSeQIT0o9AZ-rHrAYy91YEcokP-WCm3pUkyslJxqTY9az9Bo3dYWyALZOMZrkSm4u_iiK7CidNh45OHYOx7LXAWhkGmcu1V06pnJ/s1600/zara+bag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I couldn't quite justify buying either of these items just yet though - for now I perfectly executed my powers of restraint; there's always next week though. You can view Zara's full collection online at <a href="http://www.zara.com/">www.zara.com</a></div><br />
In other news I finally got my little paws on the eagerly awaited Whistles Carrie skirt that hit stores this week. A neon pink, midi-length, chiffon piece of heaven that manages to encapsulate the spirit of spring/summer in a single stretch of fabric.<br />

He has single handedly brought fashion back onto our TV screens, his shows are light hearted, easy viewing, and he never ever says that anyone needs to lose weight in order to look good. <br />
<br />
BUT<br />
<br />
His new series 'Clothes roadshow' is really starting to annoy me.<br />
The whole premise behind the show (in case anyone hasn't delved into Channel 4 recently) is that he pits the UK high street's clothes up against the worlds biggest designers in order to prove that anyone can look and feel amazing on a shoe string budget. Sounds good right? And it would be, if he actually used cheap high street clothes. Instead he uses heavily customised clothes, that are just as un-obtainable for the average viewer as the designer garments he tells us to shun every week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT0oCu3JxPV_UKz8plO-dzmPK8IAXTudPXdyNp5b3nXUk9_94GOw9l6E6Z6mT-caCB_qrEnHqy0yHxu8dhXaG22_P7xVNxZ9P6EVpiBfVlAYjXtrMWGbLLw2xUzlu7v368T_XCZXRON6c1/s1600/gok.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT0oCu3JxPV_UKz8plO-dzmPK8IAXTudPXdyNp5b3nXUk9_94GOw9l6E6Z6mT-caCB_qrEnHqy0yHxu8dhXaG22_P7xVNxZ9P6EVpiBfVlAYjXtrMWGbLLw2xUzlu7v368T_XCZXRON6c1/s320/gok.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Case in point - on tonights episode he fashioned a tartan dress out of two old picnic blankets, and customised an American Apparel top with £300 worth of crystals that took over 40 hours to be painstakingly glued on. If I tried to walk out the house in a blanket fashioned as a couture gown I would look like I was ill, and needed to head straight on back to bed, and I just don't have the time or the funds (an lets be totally honest the skill), to glue thousands of diamonte onto a mesh top.<br />
<br />
Now I am not saying his designs don't look beautiful - they do. (The pictures below show how he transformed a plain blue jersey maxi, into a stunning evening gown.) But there is no way I, and I am guessing the majority of viewers, could recreate them at home. Instead of heralding our British high street stores, he seems to be quietly implying that there is no way you could ever look good by just wearing the clothes as you buy them.<br />

<br />
Chanel's seamless ability to create an instantaneous cult classic was once again showcased as the nail varnishes started to sell out in a matter of hours<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikZo27KxPTKSECAmDFn0LJZfUk8Laj2-M02ahPmk3jcKDCcc8_GeI7XVZKAt53tE9Q-MPno4ZYvviz5fSHg5DQoZaiB2yzOCbjoU_EG2HfXKwYVI9G53A0GnJEsqjkil590hAwM1srHVms/s1600/chanel+polishes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikZo27KxPTKSECAmDFn0LJZfUk8Laj2-M02ahPmk3jcKDCcc8_GeI7XVZKAt53tE9Q-MPno4ZYvviz5fSHg5DQoZaiB2yzOCbjoU_EG2HfXKwYVI9G53A0GnJEsqjkil590hAwM1srHVms/s320/chanel+polishes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Black Pearl, for me at least, is the clear standout of the three. Its mermaid shimmer, a unique mix of deep green, silver and intense black depending on the light,make the nails appear as if they have been dipped into diamonds, a perfect polish for both the current cold snap we are experiencing as well as the summer months ahead.<br />
<br />
The other two however are rather same old, same old. Pearl Drop - whilst providing a pretty sheen to the nails, hardly differs from its Chanel cousin Intermezzo, and although Peach Nacree is a pretty spring colour, it isn't anything special. Similar colours and finishes can easily be found by many a drugstore brand, meaning it really isn't worth its £22 price tag.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>When carefully considered however, are Chanel polishes ever really worth the designer price tag? Sure the quality is good (it better be for over £20's a pop), the packaging is chic and adorned with the signature Chanel logo, but, if I am really honest the colours are rarely anything special and dare I say it? A bit copycat.<br />
<br />
Case in point. Chanel's Jade green polish caused a frenzy when it was released in September 2009, and is currently being sold on ebay for up to a quite frankly astonishing £80. Yet the almost the exact same colour was released by Mac and OPI six months earlier in the form of Peppermint Patti and Gargantuan Green Grape, respectively.<br />

Another example of Chanel jumping nail trend bandwagon is the release of Particuliere in April 2010. This dirty taupe colour was hailed as the next big thing when it was seen on Chanel's runways, when in fact the 'taupe nail trend' was already going strong thanks to OPI's release of You Don't Know Jacques a whopping 18 months earlier.<br />

<br />
<br />
So if Chanel isn't setting nail polish trends, instead merely following them, why do thousands of women rush out to get their hands (and nails) on them?<br />
<br />
There really is only one answer to that, and its because they (myself sometimes included), want to have their own little piece of Chanel. £20 is a hell of an expensive nail polish, but its a very reasonably priced piece of a Parisian design icon.Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-40053540123548276952011-01-26T09:48:00.000-08:002011-03-20T10:47:31.050-07:00See by Chloe - Poya SatchelWhilst casually shopping yesterday, I came face to face with my latest summer bag craving, and through pure intuition, mind reading abilities, or the rather unimaginative post title, I reckon all of you will already know just what it is :)<br />

Taken from the See by Chloe line, the Poya Satchel hits that pefect happy medium, where b it looks smart enough to carry whilst wearing a tailored jacket and heels, yet relaxed enough to to wear with jeans, a white tee and sandals on a summers weekend. Ok, I may have got slightly carried away with the summer's weekend knowing our weather's track record, but this satchel manages all that whilst being big enough, and practical enough to carry all your daily essentials.<br />
<br />
The understated gold hardware butter soft leather and scalloped edging give the notoriously masculine styled satchel bag, a feminine and cool twist, rendering it perfect for the summertime (again I know, but a bit of optimism never hurt anyone).<br />
<br />
Pictured above in butterscotch leather, the bag from Chloe's diffusion line also comes in black, tan, a beautiful nude pink and my personal fave - coral, and can be purchased on line from <a href="http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/98395">net-a-porter</a> or <a href="http://www.my-wardrobe.com/see-by-chloe/brown-poya-satchel-762398">My wardrobe. </a><br />
Priced at £355 the Poya satchel comes in at around a third of the price of the famous Mulberry Alexa, which I believe in comparison looks heavy, and perhaps even a little clunky.<br />

Over the last couple of years I have most likely spent an awful amount of money at my nearest Nars counter, (I think its possibly for the best if I don't tot up the final amount, it could induce some involuntary purse pinching!).<br />
<br />
So I thought I would tell you my top picks and just a few thoughts about each one.<br />
<br />
<strong>Sheer Glow Foundation</strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3f1VuFG0ZQuB2uQb99HopOHEFXHxFQ8PcTUdjH6hBVlbc5nBZvH1AK9CspqSEUjjgb9POUXmsj8URRksmnXGZcctCsKarJXCUBRlVKPeMabz38Jsax31ysgaQhddUnHtglwbCFl5WVEn5/s1600/DSCN0032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3f1VuFG0ZQuB2uQb99HopOHEFXHxFQ8PcTUdjH6hBVlbc5nBZvH1AK9CspqSEUjjgb9POUXmsj8URRksmnXGZcctCsKarJXCUBRlVKPeMabz38Jsax31ysgaQhddUnHtglwbCFl5WVEn5/s320/DSCN0032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Retailing for about £29.50, this is defiantly a pricey choice, BUT it is possibly my all time favourite.<br />
It gives a natural "skin like" finish, that doesn't look cakey, yet still manages to give good coverage. All the redness on my skin is covered in just one light coat.<br />
I find that on my dry skin it doesn't even need to be set with powder for it to last all day.<br />
However the name is seriously mis-leading, if you purchase this wanting a sheer coverage, glowy finish foundation, you will be bitterly dissapointed. I more accurate name would be 'medium - buildable semi matte', although I don't suppose that would have quite the same ring to it!<br />
<br />
<strong>Modern Love Palette</strong><br />
<br />
Nars eyeshadow palettes may be extremely pricey at nearly £40, but they provide a unique selection of shadows, all of which are super high quality, in a travel friendly compact, complete with large mirror perfect for taxi touch ups.<br />
I was unsure as to whether to include this since it was limited edition, but I feel I must since it is one of my most used eyeshadow products ever - and I have checked and all the eyeshadows included are all available to purchase individually.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizBZrYC2MIU_Ur6faQRGb-cCjE7tsdJVXQ7z8F54PONNfYg4PlZakcbTUgMYY6ee8669hKpW5OkXIUJDDgczXjI-254XYz3PYIq1QKcWNvwOL7a4F9koZY0aXNBMeZTpfW0Bgn2am1rnmn/s1600/DSCN0052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizBZrYC2MIU_Ur6faQRGb-cCjE7tsdJVXQ7z8F54PONNfYg4PlZakcbTUgMYY6ee8669hKpW5OkXIUJDDgczXjI-254XYz3PYIq1QKcWNvwOL7a4F9koZY0aXNBMeZTpfW0Bgn2am1rnmn/s320/DSCN0052.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<li><strong>Alhambra:</strong> shimmery peachy pink</li><br />
<li><strong>Jezebel:</strong> shimmery reddish brown - perfect for making green eyes stand out </li><br />
<li><strong>India Song:</strong> shimmery golden brown</li><br />
<li><strong>Tokyo:</strong> shimmery silver</li><br />
<li><strong>Habenera:</strong> shimmery plum</li><br />
<li><strong>Pandora:</strong> possible the most pigmented matte black I have ever come across,</li><br />
you have to be extremely careful whenn applying otherwise you could be in the awful situation wherby you somewhat resemble a racoon 10 minutes before you have to leave.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<strong>Deep Throat Blush</strong><br />
<br />
For such a risque name, this blush is surprisingly safe and wearable.<br />
Boadering that fine line between peach and pink, this blush delivers a gorgeous flush to the cheeks with just a subtle gold shimmer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1bh7kv004tvJmCEw-ru3ndRp-mHDQghzI-xIleZI4B1IIduHvtp-edAFAnP9nS-WFr0VclMyY_ATCWmVw1GKgbZKD62DWjoSL_LikvR8tOLisau6L2tKPmL_th9in2fARYGG-aMqdz53u/s1600/deep+throat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1bh7kv004tvJmCEw-ru3ndRp-mHDQghzI-xIleZI4B1IIduHvtp-edAFAnP9nS-WFr0VclMyY_ATCWmVw1GKgbZKD62DWjoSL_LikvR8tOLisau6L2tKPmL_th9in2fARYGG-aMqdz53u/s320/deep+throat.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqXonVzvi4-lX7dEY8eawh75er3814RXQNzMf3_zteiTsUjWVdU5Tzw6xgAdPS1XUenbMGHiXfnaC-L5uMN8s73DmEdUa5oSzQ4FUHX8YDQYN8BL649yDNjmuVw4O14PJdKVC6pcj9VRCg/s1600/DSCN0059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqXonVzvi4-lX7dEY8eawh75er3814RXQNzMf3_zteiTsUjWVdU5Tzw6xgAdPS1XUenbMGHiXfnaC-L5uMN8s73DmEdUa5oSzQ4FUHX8YDQYN8BL649yDNjmuVw4O14PJdKVC6pcj9VRCg/s320/DSCN0059.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>In my opinion, Deep Throat provides a much nicer pop of colour than the famous Orgasm blush, which, when I tried just adds a glittery coating to the cheeks rather than any amount of colour.<br />
That is one thing that you have to be very careful with when purchasing Nars products, Mr Francois seems to have a bit of an affection with glitter and so if you don't pick wisely you could end up resembling a disco ball, not quite the look you want for work on a Monday morning!!<br />
<br />
<strong>Frisky Summer Lipgloss</strong><br />
<br />
Ok Ok, I will admit that I was originally drawn to this product because of the name, (slightly shameful I know). <br />
I bright raspberry gloss with no shimmer, this is much more of a 'liquid lipstick', as it goes on with enough opacity to be worn alone and still provide a good amount of pigmentation. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhusuaGU5TYqvWzTbHpP14sm9CEfmi39o6W8LBz21q5QDTBdI-F_mqGkHouyrnEPRDW06a1HATcvbhM8sPQes6UqYgTH1QAlyJpT_nqYAMoOpy9oC6V-d_TODdRORRXgi_vG5GnJ2VnBF3u/s1600/DSCN0123%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhusuaGU5TYqvWzTbHpP14sm9CEfmi39o6W8LBz21q5QDTBdI-F_mqGkHouyrnEPRDW06a1HATcvbhM8sPQes6UqYgTH1QAlyJpT_nqYAMoOpy9oC6V-d_TODdRORRXgi_vG5GnJ2VnBF3u/s320/DSCN0123%255B1%255D.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Many people complain about the plastic scent that comes with Nars' lipgloss, and whilst I can't deny that it is there it has honestly never bothered me one bit. Unless you are smelling directly into the tube it can't be detected one bit, and personally I find this scent much more preferable than the synthetic fruity scent that some makeup companies incessantly put into their products, (yeas I am looking at you YSL with your melon scented golden gloss, and rouge voluptes).<br />
<br />
And so that concluded my ultimate favourite Nars products, I am just loooking forward to trying the new Sex Appeal blush (I love the name OK), and Hollywood land creme eyshadow pencil now :).<br />
<br />
Have you tried any Nars products, if so what are your faves??Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-69750370027749256082011-01-22T11:01:00.000-08:002011-01-22T11:23:46.350-08:00Nars heads to New York CitySo after 16 years, the cult makeup brand Nars is set to finally open its very first stand alone store this coming spring. Located in NYC on fashionable Bleecker street, the Nars boutique is set to find itself nestled in between the likes of Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren, so cementing its status as one of the premiere luxury makeup labels, (and fooling New Yorks shoppers into thinking its very high end prices are positively froogle after browsing around the designer showrooms it is located near).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZZnVRmc7QGsZnXFSvhUADmc8OGlk__IamXjKla_x2dZTpBYrLjkS8VCpgan3LdWPycHSN8LF4pVQ9Q46rm0vponphi96Z61hBottf1KurwrOc63OCHZpL33SKHYm4MSmslE85T_yDRTX-/s1600/nars+on+bleecker.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZZnVRmc7QGsZnXFSvhUADmc8OGlk__IamXjKla_x2dZTpBYrLjkS8VCpgan3LdWPycHSN8LF4pVQ9Q46rm0vponphi96Z61hBottf1KurwrOc63OCHZpL33SKHYm4MSmslE85T_yDRTX-/s400/nars+on+bleecker.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's hard to believe it has taken them this long to launch a free standing store, their iconic black rubber packaging, and provocativly titled products lend themselves perfectly to an interior design concept.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And so with only a few more months to wait until the stores grand opening, I have but one question;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">When are they going to open one in London?????</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As a huge fan of many of their products, I would be a shoe in to be one of the really uber sad people queing outside on opening day, instead (because of a minor geographical location problem), I will instead have to console myself by popping in to Selfridges to check out their newest Spring collection.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">They are also cashing in on the success of their favourite Orgasm blush, that has become a staple in many a makeup addicts life, by producing a matching lipgloss, aptly named Super Orgasm. That ritual of painting on your makeup, slipping into an LBD, and towering tall in your 5 inch heels, before looiking into the mirror feeling confident and proud. Not only are you ready on time (for once, I swear time evaporates in my hands), but just an hour ago you were stood in sweatpants on the phone in a complete and utter dilemma over what to wear, whereas now you both look and feel fantastic.<br />
<br />
For the majority of women, this is fashions main purpose; to enable them to step out of their house feeling good about themselves, which then undoubtedly imapacts upon the way you act and the success of your day. It doesn't matter whether you are wearing an expensive Preen dress that you saved up for a month to buy, or a quick purchase from H&M that costs £24.99 - the effect it has on you is exactly the same. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUx-6P7XJTS6T52oyvJijHCr7j-encPR8T1vSOxTvcpnSZMLuOzIFHpoI7-i4v-nbylDCRMlSmhnaJ3jZEvYb1HnCXQdUesnbdgWDcbqzkGTENwcX4BCFWik3nZrw6tp4GouAnzn1SD9pX/s1600/DSCN0029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" s5="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUx-6P7XJTS6T52oyvJijHCr7j-encPR8T1vSOxTvcpnSZMLuOzIFHpoI7-i4v-nbylDCRMlSmhnaJ3jZEvYb1HnCXQdUesnbdgWDcbqzkGTENwcX4BCFWik3nZrw6tp4GouAnzn1SD9pX/s320/DSCN0029.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My most recent H&M dress purchase.<br />
It just needs to be summer now so I can wear it.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">It is then a shame that when you arrive home a few hours later you are rarely in the smae confident mind-set, instead cursing the stupidly high shoes, and impossibly tight dress, swearing that neither will ever see the light of day from your wardrobe again. </div><br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">When going on a night out, I never fail to wear high heels, - however after a couple of hours on the dance floor, far from walking taller I am usually hobbling home like a woman of 85. No longer am I concerned with the aesthetic appearence of my footwear of choice, but with the incessant burning pain enrobing the ball of my foot. This conundrum between practicality (flat shoes), and appearence (high heels), is one I am confident most people reading this can identify with. However I am also quietly confident that no matter how many times I moan to myself as my feet 'pulse' with pain, no matter how many times I have to head home early, no matter how many times I swear I won't, I will continue to wear them. I quite simply would feel un-dressed and have much less fun without them.</div> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Case in point the evening I decided to wear a beautiful black, strapless French Connection dress, that was soooo un-believably tight that I had to forego eating for the whole day out of fear that I would not get the zip past my hips. </div><br />
A decision that can surely only ever be surpassed by me wearing high-waist skinny jeans complete with tucked in white shirt,to meet my friends for dinner. Very 1950s, Marilyn Monroe chic I thought, until I discovered at dinner, that the jeans were so cripplingly tight they gave me stomach cramps, leading to me and my 1950s chic outfit havng to head for home at 10:15.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So I didn't look quite like this when I returned home.<br />
Actually lets be honest, I didn't look quite like this when I left.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Do you want to know the most embarrasing point of all? I have worn all items mentioned above on multiple occasions - even though I have sworn blind that I will never wear each item again, every time I return home.<br />
<br />
So you may wander why I would be so willing to put myself through such self-inflicted fashion trauma on an almost daily basis. But the answer is a supremely simple one; the happiness, pleasure and confidence that I get from wearing the garments far outweigh the issues described above. And ok, ok I may grumble that my feet hurt, or that I have seriously restricted movement in my chosen dress, (think the robot dance circa 1992) but I know full well that I wouldn't have it any other way.<br />
<br />
Call me vain, stupid, a glutton for punishment - I probably am in some capacity all three, but there are two factors I am confident about. Fashions innate ability to make women feel happy and empowered, and my guarantee to continue my quest for an (albeit) inpractical perfection.<br />
<br />
So tell me, what are the most embarrassing decisions you have made in your quest for the perfect outfit?<br />

<br />
With never a hair, or bead out of place, Miss Pillsbury manages to make the decidedly un-cool seem supremely desirable. She mixes tonal colours, with eclectic beads and mary janes to create an overtly ladylike look, that represents her characters prim and proper persona to a tea.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP9XSLaSgjOEZotYUyUVqZ-x3_IDlQTUyv7FSSY11JHODVD3p74MjKdCxCrpJm6s7FLc7XLw_wJBR7FVc8UrK-86j46dsxhcY5j__tZYrKeaEvuVKzXNKwmaEV89ahFK7WiaWoCERcZKn1/s1600/emma+pilsbury+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP9XSLaSgjOEZotYUyUVqZ-x3_IDlQTUyv7FSSY11JHODVD3p74MjKdCxCrpJm6s7FLc7XLw_wJBR7FVc8UrK-86j46dsxhcY5j__tZYrKeaEvuVKzXNKwmaEV89ahFK7WiaWoCERcZKn1/s320/emma+pilsbury+9.jpg" width="222" /></a></div><br />
<div align="left"><br />
</div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div align="left">With a clear penchant for twin sets, Emma's looks are always very put together (indicating the characters OCD tendencies), yet they always have a fun and youthful twist.</div><div align="left"><br />
Glee's costume designer Lou Eyrich says that he always tries to ensure that the character never appears, "too cool for school", always adding bow detailing or a peter pan collar to an outfit, to bring back a preppy edge.</div><div align="left"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">One thing that I love about the costume design, is that it has a sense of realism. Emma's yellow bracelet (seen below) makes many an appearance, and she even re-wears her yellow silk bow blouse. (Something that doesn't often happen in the world of TV.)</div><br />

</div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Is Emma's wardrobe practical in real life? Probably not, (but then again neither is the character's insistence on individually polishing grapes before she deigns to eat them). It is however sheer un-adulterated fun that can't help but make you smile a little every time she hops on screen. For me this is exactly what clothes should be, a way of bringing a touch of sparkle into an otherwise mundane day.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

All the glitz, glamour, fake eyelashes, fake modesty, and over the top histrionics leads to a very satisfying evenings entertainment - and the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards, held in LA last night did not disappoint.<br />
<br />
The Facebook film The Social Network, was the biggest winner of the night netting four prizes. But my personal guilty pleasure Glee did me proud earning three awards, (including best supporting actor for the fabulously well dressed Chris Colfer aka Kurt Hummel. Yay go Chris.)<br />
<br />
In fact all of Glee’s faux teen cast looked fabulously well turned out last night, giving the established stars a run for their oversized pay checks. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqCrfeO083Oc83Rk109f2owg9RtIyKX1mtmi3oaT9I3bkfueJpJXguNdav-pXmOjNtVRNEj76NqiGJ6j1yvW2o-FVwU3vEiUyPBCscuXD2gJ7MiRZSLX2_X2dRbg3WyS4cjMHssmTM0L9t/s1600/lea+michelle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqCrfeO083Oc83Rk109f2owg9RtIyKX1mtmi3oaT9I3bkfueJpJXguNdav-pXmOjNtVRNEj76NqiGJ6j1yvW2o-FVwU3vEiUyPBCscuXD2gJ7MiRZSLX2_X2dRbg3WyS4cjMHssmTM0L9t/s400/lea+michelle.jpg" width="263" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Glee's leading lady Lea Michelle shone in a peach, ruffled Oscar de la Renta gown, accesorised with a turquoise cocktail ring. If my memory serves me correctly she has worn many an Oscar de la Renta gown of late - a very lucky lady indeed.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Both Heather Morris and Diana Agron went for nude floor sweapers to take to the red carpet in. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Personally I think Heather's figure hugging gown slightly outshines Dianna's J. Mendel selection. The colour washes out Dianna's porcelain complection and the heavy necklace seems to be fighting against the dresses wonderful simplicity. In contrast whilst Heather seems to positivly sparkle.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

(I do however love her characters look - I feel a seperate post about her style coming on.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr0qm78sK3wcXsOYWT-anic_JdK5WcAEiBe9cUxkFZCce8HPut6HtvZ_mF-2__UA-Hct_gN2Cr23ElkpCDGTrX8i332P3b-PmVTUy_phS-3PVVJtai6yXue5A2OvoJkGu6HJmjCwZJ5gAL/s1600/jayma+mays.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr0qm78sK3wcXsOYWT-anic_JdK5WcAEiBe9cUxkFZCce8HPut6HtvZ_mF-2__UA-Hct_gN2Cr23ElkpCDGTrX8i332P3b-PmVTUy_phS-3PVVJtai6yXue5A2OvoJkGu6HJmjCwZJ5gAL/s400/jayma+mays.jpg" width="262" /></a></div>The dress hangs beautifully of her tiny frame, and is complemented perfectly by Jayma's flowing aubourn hair (has someone had extensions?), and coral lips. <br />
<br />
My favourite dress however of all the Glee clubbers (and actually one of my favourites of the night) was Amber Riley's sequined Oliver Tarentino number.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwtQG-RIj7BTawVUXXB84Yg8AnBQN6JZvzyao8tDdr434AyAMFvgEd2DwiRPzg2b2uQTPShyphenhyphenx1uoO9oF3w0_6d_bEhLsCr1sn1bFOB6d0Rz4zkfdpp5uI7brIXQm70rUxCSRDHthQ1orYv/s1600/amber+riley.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="332" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwtQG-RIj7BTawVUXXB84Yg8AnBQN6JZvzyao8tDdr434AyAMFvgEd2DwiRPzg2b2uQTPShyphenhyphenx1uoO9oF3w0_6d_bEhLsCr1sn1bFOB6d0Rz4zkfdpp5uI7brIXQm70rUxCSRDHthQ1orYv/s400/amber+riley.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
It's hard to wear head to toe sequins without looking a little Diana Ross (trust me I have tried), but she pulls it off with aplomb, looking like a true Aretha Franklin-esque diva.<br />

The glamorous Vargas girls of the 1940s, old Hollywood icons such as Marilyn Monroe, but most of all the idea of decadence, passion, and glamour. This is why I believe no new years eve would be complete without one.... you might as well start the new year as you mean to continue.<br />

</tbody></table>Having seen around a 35% sales increase at Selfridge's this year, red lipstick is the simplest way to update and complement and outfit - whether it be to dress up a white t-shirt and jeans, or finish off that sequined number for new years. The celebs love it too, I believe the Minogue sported red lipstick frequently thorughout this years X factor. <br />

</tbody></table>The trickiest thing, is trying to find 'your perfect red', go too blue toned and you may look sun starved, go too yellow and your teeth can appear coffee stained (lovely). It really is a lipstick lottery, as you scour the beauty counters, never quite knowing whether that next swatch is going to transport you back to the golden <br />
Hollywood era, or Albert Square as eastend matriarch Pat Butcher.<br />
<br />
So tonight, to bring in the new year, I will be a sporting the red lip, in the hope of bringing just a touch of the decadence and charm of our favourite Old Hollywood icons into 2011. As everyon knows, it's the red lipped woman that always has and always will turn heads.<br />
<br />
And which lipstick will I be choosing? I thought I would make a change and go with a lipgloss..... Chanel's Party Red, a deep strawberry colour that stains the lips perfectly. It may be pricey but I just could not face the chimes of Big Ben without it.<br />

<br />
Greek born, Mary Katrantzou, may only have shown 4 collections, but she has in this time managed to cement herself as one today's most innovative young designers.<br />
<br />
Her SS11 show, showcased her use of digital printing and trompe l'oeil, at it's finest, literally putting the room onto the woman, instead of the woman into the room. Yet despite all the 3D graphic, wizadry used, the dresses remain flattering to the female form, allowing the clothes to straddle that fine line between art and wearble fashion with ease. <br />
<br />

<br />
With so much detailing, it's no wander her designs come with a hefty 4 figure price tag.<br />
<br />
Oh well, I will just have to be content with staring at the images until my bank balance looks a little bit healthier, and for the more fortunate, her designs are stocked both at brownsfashion.com and in store.<br />
<br />
On the bright side it's only 8 weeks until her next collection.Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-12934811671837537002010-12-28T15:12:00.000-08:002010-12-28T15:12:25.481-08:00I Love Shoes I DoI honestly do, I could think, read, write, and talk about shoes for far longer than is healthy.<br />
<br />
I especially love shoes, when I happen to stumble across a special pair, that has been marked down by a smile enhancing £60.<br />
<br />
I was doing a spot of early sale shopping before Christmas (honestly what is the mad panic to go out on boxing day, when half the bloomin high street had started their sale on the 23rd), when I popped into Dune for a bit of a browse.<br />
Squashed onto their size 5 sale rack (I hate being a size 5, everyone and their granny is a size 5), was these berry coloured beauties. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9ijJGhNUAAvnw0h7oI0cHOGngLPGccG_Ov6ef_8lA-owYV-3_LdKzoCOi4TVsmIV56iF7UyXW2WNOFmO9IWKw95GUAJR4fXGa8N1vWbtR2b6aqrXEIqj0NNbgrYjGsM3ZeO89xZydakY2/s1600/IMG_0790.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9ijJGhNUAAvnw0h7oI0cHOGngLPGccG_Ov6ef_8lA-owYV-3_LdKzoCOi4TVsmIV56iF7UyXW2WNOFmO9IWKw95GUAJR4fXGa8N1vWbtR2b6aqrXEIqj0NNbgrYjGsM3ZeO89xZydakY2/s320/IMG_0790.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv-QrMObgZyjcN9rGspcPEkTDeyuOIKEcsP8i-KGIX4aEB6wKG60Be7IXDSYnauiaHTm1YPMqfy3kNTec-yXxSDdSJmk9FhUYek1iw_DLeD-tCeTpvHxGZQ6jWvntF0xFXJu0_iIpisrLc/s1600/IMG_0787.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv-QrMObgZyjcN9rGspcPEkTDeyuOIKEcsP8i-KGIX4aEB6wKG60Be7IXDSYnauiaHTm1YPMqfy3kNTec-yXxSDdSJmk9FhUYek1iw_DLeD-tCeTpvHxGZQ6jWvntF0xFXJu0_iIpisrLc/s320/IMG_0787.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now I am pretty sure, that these have been hanging around the stock room for a while - the box looked pretty dog eared - but I don't care, any type of pink heels equal happy days to me. Thecolour looked so lovely when I wore them on Christmas Eve with black tapered leg trousers, and the gold shaped heel helped to conceal just how high they actually are. Added bonus - they didn't give me blisters. Woo Hoo.<br />
<br />
Maybe I need to get a new hobby! I really can talk for far, far too long about shoes.Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-78266554014951719432010-12-27T08:57:00.000-08:002010-12-27T10:24:05.349-08:00Perfume Review: Chanel No5 Eau Premiere<span lang="EN"></span> <br />

</div>The iconic original, has always represented to me the kind of old money featured in an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. Whenever I smell the powdery top notes it makes me imagine a refined woman partaking in a decadent weekend aboard the Orient Express.<br />
<br />
Eau Premiere represents the same wealth, but for the more youthful woman. Featuring the same floral top notes of rose absolut, neroli, jasmine, ylang ylang, and iris, it is not a dramatic departure from the original, just perhaps a more youthful interpretation of it.<br />
<br />
Stripped of its aldehydic top notes, and with a new hit of citrus added into the mix this perfume lends itself perfectly to day wear, thanks to it’s much fresher approach.<br />
<br />
Is this perfume groundbreaking? No<br />
Thoroughly wearable? Yes I can see me getting through my small bottle at a fairly rapid pace.<br />
<br />
It’s main selling point to me however is the fact that it has made me re-appreciate the original in all it’s sharp aldehydic glory. When the original No 5 was launched back in the 1920’s it was a revelation, a completely new and shocking fragrance concept, and this just pails in comparison.<br />
<br />
If you are a fan of fresh, everyday fragrances, (think D&G light blue), I would definatly recommend checking this out, but for me I think I will stick to Miss Monroe’s favourite in future.Nicolahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15279254168091161723noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194539629351158709.post-39024949658557760652010-12-26T16:22:00.000-08:002010-12-26T16:22:12.748-08:00Sale ScrumOk now I am saying this as a serious lover of all things handbags, shoes and clothes, but is it really worth facing this in the quest for that bargain bag?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEgbCeP6VykSyOjVnO-Fc54lrT8LLkr7rSZVLwdlJMG_gOM1thYyVBjVg1-TmylLQRSMSNLok9XK_moDKrlpkTzB1QIC1X1-1VJcWIwU_oSAb2D3jC4J6W2yeVj-usXfARfT2o7AUHWIwU/s1600/Sales+crush.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEgbCeP6VykSyOjVnO-Fc54lrT8LLkr7rSZVLwdlJMG_gOM1thYyVBjVg1-TmylLQRSMSNLok9XK_moDKrlpkTzB1QIC1X1-1VJcWIwU_oSAb2D3jC4J6W2yeVj-usXfARfT2o7AUHWIwU/s400/Sales+crush.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The picture was taken yesterday morning outside Selfridge's flagship store, as a quite frankly unbelievable 8000 people joined the scrum to get in the store at it's 11am opening.</div><br />
Thankfully this year I chose to stay in the comfort of my own home for Boxing Day, last year however was a very different story.<br />
<br />
I waited along with thousand of others to cram inside Selfridge's Manchester as it opened in my search for a particular Marc Jacobs bag that I knew was going to have 50% off. There really is only one word I can use to describe the madness that ensued. CARNAGE.<br />
<br />
Honestly, women can be vicious when there is Gucci at stake. Once the initial crush to get inside the store was over, two very refined looking women had a fight over a handbag that resulted in them knocking over a pretty dam heavy looking light fitting, resulting in one of them gaining a serious gash to the head, and the other a broken wrist. (Honestly at this point I would like to stress I am not joking).<br />
<br />
They had to be carted off by paramedics. Needless to say neither of them got the bag - I bet they were gutted.<br />
<br />
Although my experience didn't land me in hospital I did decided to play it safe this year and do a bit of online shopping instead. Did any of you brave the Boxing Day sales?<br />
<br />
Oh and incase you were wandering here is said Marc Jacobs bag aka the battle trophy.<br />
